Doing Good Work Should Feel Good”
Situation
Nidhi studied psychology in a reputed private university. Good grades. Teachers said she has the right temperament. Family talked about higher studies abroad. Friends shared articles about impact work and mental health awareness. She joined a mental-health NGO after college. Long days. Listening to people’s stories. No fixed timings. Salary just enough to survive. Some days she came home tired without knowing why she was tired.
Thought Bubble
Everyone keeps saying this work is important and meaningful. Then why do I feel drained, irritated, and guilty for wanting something easier?
Having Said That…
She quit after a year. Joined corporate HR. NGO friends said she couldn’t handle reality. Corporate friends said she made a sensible move. The work is lighter on the mind, heavier on routine. She earns more, sleeps better. She doesn’t feel proud of leaving. But she also doesn’t feel weak for doing so. |
