While speaking, I pause. If I only announce outcomes, I start sounding like a notice board. When I skip the “why”, I notice people comply but disconnect. Nobody complains. Still, later in the day, I feel like I didn’t really lead—just transmitted information.

I take two extra minutes to explain why we chose this route. The meeting runs longer. People nod. I don’t think about the meeting again.
